Following the bubble analogy, following the view on consciousness from our perspective in a previous article, all the other kinds of activities follows as a consequence of a physical space, that forms, under various constrains characteristics and milieus that in turn drives psychological needs, action.
The physical constrain as account for psychological need. In as much as a prior later, in humans to "an inner process stands in need of outward criteria" (L.W.).
On that line of thought, of the class of constrains, AGI will also have to slip and meld through some constrains. Constrains that mimic ours, so it then will have a chance of alignment. This is the AGI's Environment, the one that has the constrains, that in turn drives the good, aligned action.

Often questioning the kind of meta questions: why we do what we do. Why argue? Why there is something "alive" at all? Why do we measure, why do we do activities, like science pursues. Or other activities like exploring "unknowns", attribute meaning, religion, etc.
All seems to me to have the root cause a psychological one. There is ultimately a need of the mental space to define concepts like "life" or "consciousness" for example. And in turn, this need, if we try going even further in reverse, this seem to primarily be a consequence of a physical constrain of some sort.
There are two aspects to the pursues of the human in knowledge advancements: the physical space, akin the bubble analogy, in humans - as applying pressure on it it may force the mental capability to look for solutions.
And the other side, if an equilibrium is found, the need for the capability is to diminish.
Even from the womb space, the cellular collaboration and physical space may favor some aspects of the growth. Some of the aspects that our theory of physical to psychical space can explain such growths along the line of "life" entities:
- from a space constrain, planetoid forces - a first squeezing: spheroids, planets
- from that also, further spatial normalization
- futher forces and chemical actions (also physical affected), further lower level normalization
- forces are forming chirality: may be explained by constrains that are (more likely) to not be symmetric some from our local view, not-sensible, not to may be known if ever.
- birth of cells as an instance to a further very local and spatial constrains
- cells collaboration as space conquer activity
- brain at some point for further collaboration between cells colonies that multiplied themselves
- a need to conquer an environment space for maintaining the shape
- brain created additional psychological needs
- science development as a side effect of a further psychological fulfillment need.

This chain of events is also supported in the sense that it seems physical constrains (imposed) drives further squeezing of solutions "ideas."
A further pressure on the entity/population is modelling it, as the body mass of the entities is growing and growing, there is a way this mass would be able to produce more ideas and solutions - and that by the illusion of free will - we will employ upon us as a means to have an equilibrium on the physical space we are in.
We are already governed by that laws, for example the equilibrium of male/female at scale, which we do not act upon (at the moment.) Yet this spatial and mental cohesion is still in effect at scale.
Would one do a different philosophy while sitting on chair, than one while running? What if one is constantly on the run? Out of his spatial distribution.
Constraints orchestrated by the laws of physics to drive some dynamics of outcomes. Biology slips between physics, so it tends to create systems that end in some physics informed homeostatic states. Effortlessly to achieve it.
