Logic and language are only formalizing thoughts and add nothing to the meaning. It is said that during our evolution, the concepts about the world and other meaningful symbols were brought by into the language by the cultures of the emigrants.
I can imagine during tribes meetings besides fierce possession battles there were times of friendship between those parties. When this happened, a share of the world views, and philosophical ideas and concept exchanges were taking place. What is to know about all that there is? The knowledge and world representations of that people was always there and now it is only condensed and spread all over, into the new network of minds.
So striking now, this network was further refined and now we can interrogate a GPT on all the world views, bits of knowledge, view perspectives.
What ultimately remains beyond this space of concentrated formalization? I would say, as the universe just is, so it is the language. We work out our thoughts into the same representational space now. I would argue that the core of how language works and how humans externalize thoughts is taking place in a limited space. "Logic takes care of itself." It is actioning in this space. A quite limited circle by now, after aeons of verbal and cultural exchanges.
So our representation although we perceive it as infinite, we only act on the same paths. "In logic there can be no mistakes."
So only just as the universe it, so the language.
"If a lion could speak, we would not understand it." Only if an entity, as a child which emerges itself in the customs of the culture can hope to grasp its meaning. How the agent should be able to do that self-indoctrination, it a subject to another article, but for short the outcome would be: only if part of the culture can one grasp its meaning.
In this thought exercise, if it is proven to be sound, for me it represents an answer to this is the way the mind and the language of thought works.
In a way the big unrestricted LLMs are our whole and common representation. And that should be celebrated a bit. A mega formalization. An attempt to have a further layer or a different language formalization approach, we would only end up with a much further autoregressive model. Which is only a formalization of the base formalization.
There are the big things that just are, one is the Universe and the other the language.
Why the core language formalization in a way is across all humans the same? Taking for example the identical twins, why do they have so many common preferences? I would think because of the structure and the senses. Which are quite same. The embryos developed the two as mirror structures. To extrapolate, we as humans have to a degree the same structures and from here not surprising to understand why we have that formal culture, why we are able to learn it and keep it as it is in our underlying language of thought. Contained, logical. It just is, and quite impossible to further formalize it without loosing its richness and dynamism.
