Why NLP is hard to encapsulate

To begin with the conclusion: the correct way it bottom-up and not top-down, reverse engineering.

Language and meaning grows organically and fulfills self-expression.

Some words can attempt bridge representations of different cultures. But all we do is transmutations and try approximate or substitute the meanings within our representations. Language is a form of self-expression within a culture. From that perspective, I wonder what the NLPs engineers are trying to do, and how do they think they can encapsulation it within a model? Maybe there is the boundary to consider, one such system should confine itself to (hallucination boundary mitigation LLMs / KGs nowadays). And all that by leaving aside other subtleties like the quasi-direct human communication, metaphors / abstract thinking, "meaning is use" depths, Environment as context. Big "E", natural language can`t be treated in a white room, in isolation and E has many sub-contexts, from concrete (spatiality, multimodality...) to subjective ones, world setts, other devices, "language-games" of meaning approaching. Zeitgeist is not favorable for a unified solution I think.

Some use case for NLP study as in: https://read.dukeupress.edu/critical-times/article/6/1/39/318315/The-Language-s-of-Self-RepresentationToward-a :

"What ultimately matters is not only the language (la langue) of reflection (be it English for Said and Spivak, Arabic for Kilito, or French for Fanon), but a reflection on language (le langage) that folds the question of representation back upon itself. This claim is not a simple deconstructive move, but a gesture to how language and translation complicate the discourse of representation above and beyond the politics of linguistic difference. In the cunning ruse of translation, the language one speaks (or does not) is itself not definitive of the self at the heart of self-representation. The pragmatics of “other” languages help to articulate the possibility of a critical position, one that tracks from Said's Orient to Spivak's subaltern, Kilito's foreigner, and Fanon's revolutionary."
